This week we’ve discussed many of the key issues of the 1980s Feminist Sex Wars. Through an examination of Rubin and Mackinnon’s work, we explored the tension around issues such as pornography and sexual freedom. The concept of ideology was discussed in relation to the sex wars and the political sphere more broadly, with an emphasis on the way practice constitutes subjects. Even though the Sex Wars were decades ago, debates around the complexities of sex negativity and sex positivity continue today.
